This pic is from our family vacation to northern Michigan in 2007. Just look on Google Maps for "Tunnel of trees" and follow Rt 119 north from Petoskey if you want to check out a very fun windy road. I drove past this sign and my wife thought I was a little nuts when I pulled over, backed up and jumped out of the car... but it's not something you see every day!
Got another fun road for a summer drive? Post it up!

Coronado Trail Scenic Drive in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. Springerville to Clifton. 120 miles of twisties with a 6000 ft. elevation change. I think it rivals the Tail of the Dragon except longer.

I just bicycled the Tunnel of Trees on the Zoo-de-Mack ride a couple weeks ago. It was pretty nice!

This is one of my favorite drives. Starting in Eagle River head north on M-26 until you get to the north end of Brockway Mountain Drive. Then turn up Brockway and drive until you get to the summit turnaround. The drive from M-26 to the summit of Brockway is the famous Brockway Mountain stage of the LSPR. Since google/kinja is being a prick and not letting me copy/paste the screenshot, here is the link . Here are a couple videos. The first video is of Kyle Sarasin setting the Brockway Mountain stage record.

"Narrow winding road" should be an option like "Avoid highways"

Ooh I've been there! (kind of) Wandered the Gila national forest for a day in my old suburban. Had no idea where we were but it was a lot of fun. Spent a lot of time not on roads...
Great place to tour. Very very scenic.

Nice. Watching that makes me feel like I drove that road before. I did a run from somewhere in northern CA to Seattle, and I remember miles of road like that. Late at night. Almost out of gas...

there's a great one in northern Cali going from the coast over to I5 at sort of the very northernmost part of the state. I've driven it a couple of times, the second time I was almost out of gas as well!

That sounds like about where I was. Similar look and feel to your video. Except I was driving an '86 Suburban towing a camper!
We figured worst case scenario was that we pulled over and slept until morning, then looked for a ride to a gas station. Except the trees were so thick there was no place we could have pulled over. We would have been blocking the road.
edit - in fact I think we crossed the border into Oregon, found a gas station, and parked for the rest of the night in their parking lot to wait until they opened next day.

Yeah, i think both 299 and 96 are super awesome roads down there, you were probably on 96 if it popped out right before the border.
The first time I did those roads down there, I had just graduated from college in 2005 and was driving my buddies 2000 accord sedan. 4-cyl, but at least it was a manual, plus those accords had surprisingly accurate steering. Never the less, I promised myself i'd get back down there in something more appropriate.
Like 4 years later i made good on my promise by driving my 350Z from Seattle to San Fran via Arcata, where i have friends. Unfortunately as I hinted at before, i only really got to drive about half of it at maximum attack. I came across a gas station that didn't have premium, but that did have a sign proclaiming that there wasn't any other gas for like 50 miles. I could easily make it driving like a normal person, but if i pushed it, it was going to be close. I chose to drive like a normal person, which was a huge bummer, but fun roads are pretty no matter how fast you're going.
I would definitely like to go again sometime, because if anything those roads are better than the one i posted a video of.

Oh that's exactly where we were! Thanks! I'm pretty sure we were on 199. Probably was beautiful during the day.
